Unlike the lakes that freeze over and those animals that hibernate during the long, cold Maine winters – the Friends year-round education programs “heat up” during the school year.
of our mission by the Board of Directors at a June, 2004 planning retreat, this initiative became a reality in 2005 due in large part to a 5-year, $150,000 grant provided by the UNITY FOUNDATION.
Tamara Whitmore, the Friends Education Director graduated from Hood College in Maryland and Antioch Graduate School of New England and brings extensive experience in providing environmental education programs to school children of all ages.
with Maranacook Community Middle School, over 100 middle school students took part in a program that provided students with a fun and informative learning experience on watershed and water quality issues. Today, Tamara is in the classroom on a regular basis with over 400 students in schools located in the towns of Winthrop, Readfield, Litchfield, Monmouth, Mount Vernon and West Gardiner.
to meet the needs of each classroom….and each teacher. Whether it be a year-round initiative, multiple lesson plans, one session, or a winter or spring vacation camp – the Friends stand ready to assist.
