 Once again, beautiful weather dominated the scene for the 5th Annual “Friends on the 4th” 5K Road Race, held on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.
With most of the course set along the beautiful eastern shore of Maranacook Lake, the race has continued to grow in stature every year, attracting both old and new friends to start their 4th of July with the Friends. This year’s race drew 436 entries – continuing its rise from 97 in its 2003 debut, 153 in 2004, 224 in 2005 and 313 in 2006 - making it the largest running event in central Maine.
In the photo at left, Gabe Rivard of Manchester, ME was the 2007 overall winner for the fourth consecutive year with a new course record time of 15:07, while Catherine Sterling of Kents Hill, ME took the women’s title in a time of 18:52.
Major Sponsor for the fourth consecutive year was Vallee Real Estate , along with supporting sponsors Kennebec Savings Bank and Transco Office Solutions.
Additional supporters for this year’s race include American Awards, Peak Performance MultiSport , PFG-NorthCenter, Pine State Trading Company, Poland Springs, Coca-Cola, Bagel Mania, College Carry-Out, The Copy Center, Adept Screen Printing and the Winthrop American Legion.
Open to all runners, joggers and walkers - men, women and children for this year’s event hailed from nineteen states including all of New England as well as California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
