The Otter II

OTTER_II_2006The ever-popular "Ice Cream Boat" operates each summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

This innovative approach to informing lake residents what they can do to help keep local lakes and ponds clean was innitiated in 2002 with the OTTER, a 20' pontoon boat, selling ice cream dock to dock as an "ice breaker" to discussing water quality issues. Today, the OTTER has been replaced by a slightly larger vessel, the 22' OTTER II, and is utilized during the week as a "floating classroom" for the Friends popular Tadpole Patrol education programs.  On the weekends, the OTTER II moves to one of eleven water bodies of the Cobbossee Watershed, “hosted” by residents who provide us with dock space and an electrical hook-up for our freezers. Since that first summer of 2002, the original OTTER and the OTTER II have come in contact with tens of thousands of people, bringing smiles to faces with tropical music, good ice cream and providing information on how to protect our lakes.

Clark Marine of Manchester, Maine continues to provide major support of the OTTER II, with Hershey Ice Cream supplying the delicious treats each summer!

Along with our mascot “Spotter the Otter”, The OTTER II will be all over the watershed once again this summer – participating at numerous community events, fairs, parades and gatherings. Check the EVENT CALENDAR to find out where The OTTER II will be each weekend, or if you would like the OTTER II or Spotter to appear at your event or function, please contact our office:  (207) 621-4100 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
